Federal Government to distribute 900million palm seedlings to farmers

In a bid to boost agriculture and reduce reliance on oil in the country, the Federal Government is set to distribute 900 million seedlings of high yielding palms to farmers in the coming weeks to boost palm oil production in the country.

Audu Ogbeh(the minister of Agriculture and Rural Development) revealed this in his office
when the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Rural Development paid him a visit as part of its oversight functions.

The minister stated that the current price o price will start falling from November this year as more Nigerians are embracing the call fro agriculture.

Tribune gathered that he also adviced Senators to encourage their various governors to help the work of the Federal Government. Reiterating this fact, Senator Heinikein Lokpobiri stated that $22billion annula food import bill had led to the astonishing rice in the cos t of rice and other commodities.

He stressed that if Nigerians don't embrace Agriculture and start producing their won, the prices with further rise to an unimaginable price.

The minister stated that currently, there is 250,000 tons of palm oil shortage to meet local demand, adding that the planed distribution is to meet and surpass the current shortage.
