The new iPhone 7 finally unveiled

The iPhone 7 has been revealed in San Francisco at an Apple event today

Mirror gathered that the CEO of Apple Tim Cook took to the stage and confirmed that the company is ditching the headphone socket, meaning users will either have to use wireless Bluetooth headphones called AirPods to listen to music, or buy a pair of wired headphones that plug into the Lightning port - currently used for charging.

The Apple Watch Series Two was also revealed, which - like the iPhone 7 models - will be water resistant.

Stephen Ebbett, global director of gadget insurer Protect Your Bubble, has reacted to today’s Apple launch.
Regardless of your take on it, the latest iteration of Apple’s ever-popular iPhone is proof of how they’re constantly looking to innovate in an increasingly busy space. As expected, they’ve silenced the critics’ quibbles by amping up the camera’s quality in low light – which includes a dual camera for the larger iPhone 7 Plus model. A savvy move, as ever-improving camera apps are putting the onus on the hardware providers to rise to the challenge of developing tech that’s as sharp as their users’ expectations. Then there’s the flourish of additional colour options and water resistance, which will bring the iPhone in line with some of its Android competitors. The improvements to the Apple Watch – including GPS and a pumped up processor – will also be a shot in the wrist for the technology which has been looking for a silver bullet to drive up sales since it became available to the public last year. All in all, today’s announcement heralds in a solid raft of updates that will keep Apple purists happy and should be enough to persuade cynics to take another look.

Sources confirmed the AirPods, as Apple said themselves, are a “brave” move for the tech giant.Unfortunately many people are complaining about the price as being too expensive. It cost $649 while the plus edition cost $769 and will feature two cameras.

The Airpods will be available in late October for $159 while iOS 10 was unveiled and will be available September 13. Shipping to major markets in the UK will start on September 16
