Police orders officers to protect the trees or loose their jobs

The police authorities in Gombe State has ordered all police officers to protect the trees in Gombe State. The order was given in a bid to protect the environment against erosion.
Punch gathered that the commissioner of police warned all officers especially those that reside in the barracks to be serious with what he saying and sustain the trees or risk loosing their jobs.
Speaking at a launch at the command barracks in Gombe he stressed that each household in the barracks will be allocated trees for protection and nursing. He further stressed that tree planting is important to human life,environment protection and erosion control.

He complained of the continuous degradation of the environment by cutting off of most trees. He said trees have supported and sustained life through a number of ways economically, health-wise, social benefits and environmental. It will be done in such a way that everybody will get used to it and no community will exist without it.

The State commissioner of Environment Hajiya Sa’adatu further called on citizens to avoid dumping of refuse into drainages in order to prevent flooding and erosion hazards, adding that the present administration has made effort towards controlling the menace of soil erosion in the state.
