Donkeys used by Human Traffickers to ferry victims

Mr Mohammed Yaro, the controller of Katsina State command of the Nigeria Immigration Service disclosed
how human traffickers use motorcycles, donkeys to transport their victims across the boarder. They do this to beat the security agencies and ferry their victims to neigbouring countries.

In Katsina 11 victims of human trafficking were rescued on Saturday by NIS at different boarder areas sin the state. 7were from Edo State, 3 from Delta and 1 from Kogi.

Punch learnt that they were rescued based on the new strategies adopted by men of its intelligence unit, adding that some of the victims were riding either on motorcycles or donkeys in order not to be detected by security operatives.

The NIS Comptroller would not disclose the border areas where the victims were picked up, insisting that doing so would jeopardise the investigation being carried out by the service to track down the traffickers.

He said, “Our investigation revealed that their (victims) mission was to cross border en route Agadez in Niger Republic to Libya and then Italy for employment.
He stressed that  Katsina State will no longer be used as a transiting route for human trafficking.”
