Aero contractors airline suspend operations and send some staff to indefinite leave

One of Nigeria's largest commercial carrier has announced its suspension on flight services to the public starting from Thursday September,2016.

Punch gathered that the airline is laying off some workers due to financial woes. The airline is also in talks with aviation unions on how to cut jobs as they struggle to cope with the crisis in the company. 

Confirming this in a statement signed by the carrier’s management on Wednesday, Aero stated that the suspension was part of the strategic business realignment to reposition the airline and return it to the part of profitability due to the current economic situation in Nigeria. This situation has seen some airlines pull out of Nigeria or suspend operations in recent times.

“The implication of the suspension of scheduled services operations extends to all staff members directly and indirectly involved in providing services as they are effectively to proceed on indefinite leave of absence during the period of non-services.”

As passengers, who had earlier booked travel tickets online stormed the ticketing counters of Aero in some airports, the airline had to swiftly announce that it would refund the payments made by the intending travellers.

Aero officials has stated that they will refund monies to those that have booked flight for today,September 1st and regretteed any incovinece it might have brought but they had to ground all flights due to forex problems and also the inability to bring back airlines flown out for maintenance.

A source at Aero confirmed the ongoing issues and stated that no date has been fixed yet for resumption of duties due to the bad economic situation presently faced in Nigeria which has disallowed themto plan .

They noted that their helicopter service and charter operation are still in full operation for now.
