Remembering one of Nigeria's Legend- The late FELA (photos)



Afrobeat legend Fela Anikulapo Kuti died at the age of 58 ,19years ago.precisely August 2, 1997.


He enlightened many with his songs that sent powerful messages not only about Nigerians but to the whole world at large. He sang with his heart and soul and identified with the poor and down trodden in the society. He made sure he touched on issues affecting the common man and stood his ground no matter the consequences of what he felt was the right  way to fight for peace and justice.

He was born in October 15 1938. Real names OluFela Olusegun Oludotun Ransome Kuti.He believed in African culture which he felt men should have as many wives hence he formed the Kalakuta Republic was formed.

According to his Wikipedia page, he ran an outspoken column in Punch and dailytimes in the 70s and bypassed censorship where he voiced his opinion no matter what. he died of AIDS and is greatly missed. Remembering his dad, his son Seun state on twitter 'As we all dey yarn Fela and him music abeg make we youths dey learn knowledge from the lyrics, those lyrics r important, not a joke.
