Reasons why Colombia beat Nigeria 2- 0 in Rio

Despite a disappointing loss on the part of Nigeria's dream team VI, they still topped Group B in RIO and qualified for the quater-finals.

Nigeria leads in Group B with 6points with Colombia as 2nd with 5points.

The game was surprising as Nigeria who had won their previous matches with good sportmanship played lesser like the champions they are.

Colombia's captain Teofilo Gutierrez scored the first goal while a second half penalty kick from Dorlan Pabon gave Colombia a second goal. The early goal boosted the confidence of th Colombians and gave them an early lead.

They also used the confidence boost to creat more goal chances for themselves. In the 19th minute, Harold Preciado made a close range header which was stopped by Akeyi. Inspite of all, the dream team tried to create chances of their own.

Etebo made a well targeted free kick that the Colombian goalkeeper blocked with his legs but unfortunately after that Colombians got their second goal from a penalty when goalkeeper Akeyi tackled Preciado in the penalty box.

Onlookers have suggested  that Nigeria's coach Samsia Samson intentionally did not encourage the players to play well. Their reason was that he wanted them to rest a bit for the quarterfinals which they had already qualified for. There was no need playing their best and gettingtired or injured for the quaterfinals.

Others said they needed to downplay their game so that other competitors will not watch and study their best game to use against the. Whatever the case maybe we hope the quaterfinals will be as good as their first 2 games.

A third goal would have come their way in the 73rd minute but Preciado could missed on target. Nigeria will travel to Salvador for the quater -finals while Colombia will play in Sao Paulo

Goodluck to the dreamteam!!
