What Must We Do?

Luke 3:10 - 18
When all the people asked John, What must we do? he answered, ''If anyone has two tunics he must share with the man who has none, and the one with something to eat must do same.

' There were tax collectors too who came for baptism, and these said to Him,'Master what must we do? He said to them, 'Excel no more than your rate. 'Some soldiers asked him in their turn,' What about us? What must we do? He said to them, 'No intimidation! No extortion! Be content with your pay!

A feeling of expectancy had grown among the people, who were beginning to think that John might be the Christ, so John declared before them all,' I baptise you with water , but someone is coming , someone more powerful than I am, and I am not fit to undo the strap of his sandals; He will baptise you with the HolySpirit and fire.

His winnowing fan is in his hand to clear his threshing floor and to gather the wheat into his barn; but the chaff he will burn in a fire that will never go out. As well as this, there were many other things he said to extort the people and to announce the GoodNews to them.

This passage is trying to teach us how to live a practical christian life. What must we do comes up most times in our lives when we seek to find the truth. John maintained his answer which is christian living. Christianity is not by going to church everyday, joining all the groups in church, speaking in tongues and telling who ever wants to listen that you are born again or how much you love the Lord. It is about your everyday life. Christlike.

How do you relate to the poor, needy, friends, neighbours and so on. Do you ignore the plight of the poor and suffering. Just a smile, phone call, visit, kind gesture will do the job.

John never said share only if you feel like but he commanded sharing because it is the practical thing as a christian to do and not just sharing money but everything.

He also touched on GREED' Obviously Greed did not just start today its been there right from creation, up till now. Those people that have and want more and more to take.

These days most preachings are not geared towards christian living. How do we tell people to live a good life when all the time most pastors preach on prosperity, instant miracles. At the end of the day we are enjoined to live a good christian life and all other things shall be added to us. Love one another.Desist from corruption, intimidation and fraud which are the order for the day in today's society.

I pray God will give us the strength to be good Christians in Jesus name.
