Fire razes Ogun market

A late night fire on Tuesday razed properties worth millions of naira at the popular Kuto Market in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital.

Our correspondent gathered that the fire, whose cause has yet to bé ascertained, broke out between 9.30pm and 10pm when many of the traders had closed their shops for the day.

Punch reports that No fewer than 14 shops, stocked with variety of goods such as bags of rice, garri, yam flour, and beverages among others, were burnt.

Fire fighters, who were said to have arrived the scene of the fire some few minutes past 10pm, battled to put it out.

However, no casualty was recorded no the incident.
When our correspondent visited the market on Wednesday morning, the traders whose shops were razed were said to have gone to the Ibara police station.

The Caretaker Chairman, Abeokuta South Local Government, Olusola Ekundayo, who visited the market told journalists that an investigation would be conducted to unravel the cause of the fire.
