APC members die in auto crash

Tragedy struck in the early hours of yesterday when no fewer than nine persons including eight members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) were crushed to death at Ezzamgbo junction in Ohaukwu Local Government Area of Ebonyi state.

According to Sunnews it happened on a day the Appeal Court sitting in Enugu dismissed the suit filed by the 2O15 governorship candidate of the Labour Party in the State, Mr. Edward Nkwegu, for lack of merit.

It consequently upheld the verdict of the governorship tribunal in Ebonyi State which had earlier affirmed the victory of Engr. David Umahi of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in the April 22 election in the state.

Eight of the accident victims were said to be supporters of APC House Representatives candidate in the last general election, Uche Nshii, heading to Enugu to witness the Ebonyi governorship tussle ruling while the conductor of the tipper also died on the spot.

Meanwhile, the tipper driver and one occupant of the vehicle occupied by the APC members were said to have been critically injured and are receiving treatment at the Federal Teaching Hospital in Abakaliki.

The APC branded Sienna vehicle rammed into the tipper along the ever busy junction. An eye witness narrated that the accident occurred at 8:10 am when the Sienna Car going to Enugu when trying to avoid an oncoming motorcyclist riding against traffic skidded off the road and lost control, after which it jumped into the other side of the dual carriageway before hitting the tipper driver on the other side of the lane.

The source noted that the nine passengers died on the spot while the tipper driver was rushed to the hospital.
